Goa’s Water Woes : 4 Talukas to Face Restricted Supply on Jan 7-8
Residents of Sanguem, Quepem, Salcete, and Marmugao talukas, brace yourselves for a water supply disruption on January 7 and 8, 2026, due to scheduled maintenance work at the 160MLD Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Xelpem, Sanguem. The Public Works Department (PWD) has announced a shutdown from 9 am to 7 pm on January 7, affecting water distribution in these areas.
The 100MLD WTP will remain operational, but with restricted supply. The PWD has urged consumers to make necessary arrangements and cooperate during the maintenance period. Normal water supply is expected to resume after completion of repair works ¹ ².
This shutdown highlights Goa’s ongoing struggle with aging water infrastructure, with frequent pipeline ruptures and supply disruptions plating the state.
