Twenty-two Rescued From Drowning, Two Missing Children Traced by Drishti Marine Lifesavers Along Goa Coast over New Year Weekend

Panaji, January 2026: Twenty-two persons were rescued by Drishti Marine lifesavers over the first weekend of 2026, while two missing children were located and five persons were administered first aid at various locations along Goa’s coastline. The state’s beaches continued to have large numbers of visitors as New Year celebrations extended over the weekend.

Arambol Beach: A 36-year-old Russian tourist was rescued from about 50 metres into the sea by Drishti Marine lifesavers Vishnu Kubal and Sandeep Mapankar, using a rescue tube and a jet ski, respectively.

Mandrem Beach: First aid was administered to a person who sustained a scratch on the right leg while navigating a rocky area at Ashwem. The assistance was provided by lifesaver Sudhir Parab.

Morjim Beach: Three tourists, including two men from Delhi and one Russian woman, were saved from drowning in a triple rescue operation off Morjim beach by Drishti Marine lifesavers Prathmesh Kubal and Babaji Naik, on rescue board and jetski, respectively.

Baga Beach: Two single rescue incidents were reported at Baga beach over the weekend. A 25-year-old man from Karnataka and a 60-year-old Russian tourist signalled for help while in the water. The Indian national was rescued by Drishti Marine lifesaver Mahesh Kamabli using a rescue tube, while the foreign national was rescued by lifesavers Ankur Choudhary and Sushant Gaonkar using a rescue board and a jet ski respectively.

Calangute Beach: In a double rescue, a father-daughter duo from Delhi (aged 60 and 21, respectively) were rescued by Drishti Marine lifesavers Soma Latye, Ankur Kumar and Sujeet Kumar. In another incident, a male teenager from Uttar Pradesh, was rescued by lifesaver Soma Latye using the rescue tube, while two men from Noida, aged 28 and 43, were rescued by Sujeet Kumar with a rescue board.

Candolim Beach: In a single rescue, a 10-year-old girl from Moscow was rescued by Drishti Marine lifesaver Rohit Kandolna using a rescue tube. In another incident, a woman from Kazakhstan was administered first aid after she sustained a deep cut on her toe at the same beach.

Miramar Beach: First aid was administered to a person who reported a jellyfish sting while at Miramar beach.

Velsao Beach: Two 30-year-old male tourists from Bihar were rescued after being caught in a rip current while swimming. Drishti Marine lifesavers Kachappa and Sunil Madar used a rescue board and a rescue tube to bring the victims to safety.

Colva Beach: A 27-year-old woman from Bengaluru was rescued by Drishti Marine lifesaver Devesh Velip after drifting far out to sea and becoming exhausted while swimming. In a separate incident, a three-year-old girl from Ponda who went missing on the beach was traced about 700 metres away by lifesaver Ravindra Dhokare and reunited with her father after verification.

Benaulim Beach: A seven-year-old child was reported missing near a popular beach shack at Benaulim. He was later found some distance away and following verification, was handed over to his father.

Agonda Beach: Two male tourists in their mid-twenties from Pune were rescued after being caught in a rip current. Drishti Marine lifesavers Satyavan Velip and Prahlad Velip used rescue boards to safely bring the victims to shore. In another double rescue at Agonda, a 26-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, both from Mumbai, were caught in a rip current and rescued by lifesaver Prahlad Velip on a jet ski and Bikas Velip using a rescue tube.

Palolem beach: Two men from Andhra Pradesh in their mid-forties were rescued by lifesavers Praveen and Sameer, after they were pulled nearly 100 metres into the sea by a rip current. At the same beach, a 32-year-old man from Bengaluru fell into deep water while kayaking around 800 mts from the store. A Drishti Marine lifesaver rushed over on a jet ski and brought the victim ashore. In a separate incident, a 25-year-old female from the UK complained of chest pain upon returning from a dolphin trip. Drishti Marine lifesavers transported her over 500 metres, where a waiting ambulance took her to the nearest government medical facility. The fourth incident saw a 25-year-old male getting stung by a jellyfish. He was administered first aid by lifesavers promptly.
