AFCON CUP: Ivory Coast Staged a Thrilling Comeback to Beat Gabon 3-2, Top Group F
CASABLANCA, Morocco – In a heart-stopping finish, Ivory Coast came from two goals down to beat Gabon 3-2, securing top spot in Group F at the Africa Cup of Nations. Bazoumana Touré scored the winner in stoppage time, heading in a cross from Christopher Opéri, as Les Éléphants made a dramatic comeback.
Opéri had earlier set up Evann Guessand for the equalizer in the 84th minute. Coach Emerse Faé’s side had been forced to make changes due to Gabon’s early dominance, but substitutes Opéri and Touré proved crucial.
Gabon had taken a 2-0 lead through Guélor Kanga and Denis Bouanga, before Jean‑Philippe Krasso pulled one back before halftime. Cameroon also came from behind to beat Mozambique 2-1, but Ivory Coast’s win meant they finished ahead on goals scored.
Mozambique and Ivory Coast progress to the last 16, while Gabon is eliminated.
