“New Year’s Brawl Turns Deadly: West Bengal Caretaker Murdered in Calangute”
On 01.01.2026, an offence vide Calangute PS Crime No. 02/2026 u/s 103(1) of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023, stands registered at 14:55 hrs on the complaint of Shri Kiran Naik, PSI of Calangute Police Station, upon enquiry into Calangute Police Station Unnatural Death Case No. 01/2026 u/s 194 BNSS.
The complaint states that prior to 02:44 hours on 01/01/2026, in the compounded property of Mr. Alex, opposite Jerry Wine Store, Porbavaddo, Calangute, Goa, the accused, Kamal Adhikari, residing at C/o Alex, near Jerry Wine Store, Porbavaddo, Calangute, Goa, native of West Bengal, assaulted Shipad Debnath s/o Baidyanath Debnath, aged about 62 years, R/o C/o Alex, Porbavaddo, Calangute, Goa, native of Ramkrishnapur, Fatepur, Dakshin Dinajpur, West Bengal, with a sharp weapon, causing sharp cut bleeding injuries on the face and chest, due to which Shipad Debnath succumbed to the injuries, and thereby the accused committed murder of the deceased.
Preliminary investigation reveals that the deceased was working as a caretaker in a compounded property opposite Jerry Wine Store, Porbavaddo, Calangute, Goa, where he, along with his friend, i.e., the accused Kamal Adhikari, were having dinner, and on sudden provocation, the accused committed the murder of the deceased with a sharp-edged weapon.
Calangute Police Station swiftly arrested the accused in a systematic investigation. The accused, during sustained interrogation, confessed to the commission of the crime. Further investigation is in progress with Shri Paresh Naik, Police Inspector of Calangute Police Station.
