Ahead of key meeting, ISL clubs seek clarity on league structure from AIFF
ISL clubs are seeking clarity from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on the league structure and future plans ahead of a crucial meeting. The clubs have written to AIFF, requesting detailed information on the proposed revenue model, broadcast arrangements, and cost structure for the short-term league .
The 2025-26 ISL season has been put on hold since July due to disagreements over renewing the Master Rights Agreement (MRA) between the league’s former organisers, Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), and AIFF. The existing deal expired in December 2025, leading to a contractual impasse that required Supreme Court intervention
AIFF has proposed two formats for the league: a conference system with 14 teams divided into Eastern and Western conferences, and a Swiss format with single-leg home and away matches. However, clubs are concerned about the lack of clarity on budgets, revenue models, and broadcasting arrangements.
The next meeting between AIFF and club representatives is scheduled for December 26, with a final meeting on December 29 to discuss the way forward ¹ ³.
