Mapusa Merchants Call Off Liberation Day black flag Protest After CM Intervention
Mapusa, Dec 19 – In a dramatic turn of events, the Mapusa merchant community backed out of its planned silent protest on Goa Liberation Day, following a late-night meeting with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. The protest, announced to highlight issues with the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC), was called off after Sawant assured traders that pending issues like lease renewals and arrears would be addressed.
The Urban Development Secretary will convene a meeting at MMC on December 29 to resolve these issues. Traders, who had accused MMC of “systematic exploitation” and MLA Joshua D’Souza of inaction, now await the meeting’s outcome. Critics within the community see the move as a climbdown under pressure
