Goa CM Dr. Pramod Sawant Unfurls National Flag, Celebrates Liberation Day
Panaji, December 19, 2025 – Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant unfurled the National Flag at Mahalaxmi, Althino, marking the 64th Goa Liberation Day celebrations. The event commemorated the heroic efforts of freedom fighters who liberated Goa from Portuguese rule on December 19, 1961.


In his address, CM Sawant emphasized the significance of patriotism and national unity, urging citizens to work towards building a “Golden Goa”. He paid tribute to the brave soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces who led “Operation Vijay”, ending 451 years of colonial oppression ¹ ² ³.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that Goa has surged ahead of many other Indian states in terms of overall development, despite attaining liberation much later than the rest of the country. Chief Minister pointed out that although Goa became free 14 years after India’s Independence, the state has today achieved several key milestones. He highlighted that Goa has reached 100 per cent literacy and has ensured complete coverage of essential basic services. Dr Sawant stated that flagship initiatives such as Har Ghar Nal Se Jal, Har Ghar Bijli and Har Gram Sadak have been successfully implemented across the state, ensuring that every household and village benefits from drinking water supply, electricity and road connectivity.
The event was marked by patriotic fervor, with attendees celebrating Goa’s freedom and cultural heritage ⁶ ².
