Overwhelming Support Across Party Lines for INC Candidate Mary alias Maria Menezes in Aldona ZP Polls

MAPUSA: Social worker and Indian National Congress candidate for the Aldona Zilla Parishad, Mary alias Maria Menezes, continues to receive overwhelming support across the Aldona constituency, cutting across party lines.

In a significant political development, BJP Aldona Panchayat member Subhash Raut extended his wholehearted support to Mary alias Maria Menezes. Raut, who was present at the filing of her nomination, also joined her campaign, lending a major boost to her candidature and clearly reflecting the growing confidence in her leadership and grassroots connect.

At a packed public meeting held at Aldona on December 15, 2025, Mary alias Maria Menezes received strong support from several panchayat members, including Ashwin D’Souza, Sarpanch of VP Aldona; Abithnya Satardekar, Deputy Sarpanch; and panch members Pranesh Naik, Dorothy Fernandes, Nataline Colaco, Rohan Pinto, Babita Falkar and Subhash Raut. Support was also extended by members from the Pomburpa–Olaulim Panchayat, including Sonia Chodankar, Sarpanch of VP Pomburpa; Shankar Bude, Deputy Sarpanch; Gokuldas Harlankar, Maria Horta and Leopoldina Noronha. Panch members from Ucassaim, former Deputy Sarpanch Alphy D’Souza, and Bastora panch members Saneela Salgaokar, Rajesh Pilankar and Sagar Salgaokar were also present, along with a large number of residents from across the constituency.

Addressing the gathering, Mary alias Maria Menezes assured the people that she would carry out development works quietly and honestly, without any fanfare, stating that she firmly believes that “work is worship” and that sincere service to the people will remain her top priority.

Aldona MLA Adv. Carlos Álvares Ferreira appealed to voters to come out in large numbers and ensure the victory of Mary alias Maria Menezes. He warned voters against divisive forces attempting to split votes and alleged that the BJP was desperate to win “by hook or by crook”.

“The BJP government in Goa stands completely exposed today. From the worsening law-and-order situation, crimes against women, the growing drug menace to scams like the Excise Scam and the Cash-for-Jobs Scam, corruption has become the DNA of this government,” Adv. Ferreira said.

Referring to the recent tragedy at Romeo Lane, Arpora, where 25 people lost their lives, he said the incident had exposed deep-rooted corruption. “A nightclub was allowed to operate for nearly two years without a construction licence. This could not have happened without protection from the top. Even BJP MLAs, former BJP MLAs and national media have openly spoken about this corruption,” he added.

Adv. Ferreira urged voters to elect Mary alias Maria Menezes, describing her as a simple, grounded and dedicated social worker. “Mary has always worked for the people without discrimination or publicity. She is rooted to the ground and understands the real issues of Aldona. I appeal to voters to support her and ensure her victory,” he said.
