“Ex-Panch Member of Aldona, Mr. Thomas Tavares, files his nomination as an independent candidate for the Aldona constituency.”
Mapusa: In a bold move, Thomas Tavares, former Panch member of Aldona panchayat, has thrown his hat into the ring as an independent candidate for the upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections from Aldona Constituency. Known for his tireless social work and unwavering commitment to the people, Tavares is taking on the establishment, citing widespread dissatisfaction with the current elected representatives.

“Aldona has regressed by a decade in the last three years,” Tavares stated emphatically. “The present representatives are more interested in photo ops and attending social events than doing actual work. Files are stuck, and people are suffering.”
Tavares, who has a reputation for taking on tough issues, is particularly concerned about the rampant illegalities and unchecked development that threaten to turn Aldona into a “concrete jungle”. His decision to contest as an independent candidate is a response to the people’s plea to break the Congress-BJP stranglehold on local politics.
Tavares’ entry is expected to shake up the electoral landscape in Aldona, with many predicting a tough battle ahead for the traditional contenders. As one local resident put it, “Thomas is the voice of the people. We hope he wins and brings some real change to Aldona.”
