25 killed, 6 injured in fire at nightclub in Goa

arpora: A devastating fire broke out at a nightclub in North Goa’s Arpora around midnight, claiming 25 lives and injuring six others. The victims include four tourists and 14 staff members, with the identities of seven others still unknown.

The fire is believed to have started on the club’s first floor, spreading rapidly and trapping people in the basement area, which lacked proper ventilation and exit doors. Most victims died due to suffocation.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident and assured strict action against those responsible. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief and announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured .

The nightclub, Birch by Romeo Lane, had allegedly not complied with fire safety norms, and authorities are investigating possible violations. A safety audit of all clubs in Goa has been ordered, and notices will be issued to ensure compliance .
