African National Released in 2013 Porvorim Riot Case: A Look at the Landmark High Court Decision
The Bombay High Court at Goa has granted release to one of the 52 African nationals involved in the 2013 Porvorim highway rioting case. The court observed that foreigners out on bail cannot be detained indefinitely and must be provided necessary visas to facilitate investigation.

The accused, arrested in 2013 for attempt to murder, was granted bail the same year. The High Court has now directed him to report to the police station every Monday, while visa authorities have been instructed to decide on his fresh visa application within eight weeks
The 2013 Porvorim riot was sparked by the murder of an African national, leading to a group of protesters blocking the highway. The incident led to charges against 52 African nationals, including attempt to murder and rioting.
