Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy 2025: Goa Defeat Chandigarh by 52 Runs
Panaji: In the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy match played on Friday at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Goa produced a commanding all-round performance to defeat Chandigarh by 52 runs.

Batting first, Goa posted 173 for 6 in 20 overs, and later bowled out Chandigarh for 121 in 19 overs, sealing a clinical victory.
The star of the innings was Lalit Yadav, who played a sensational knock of 82 runs off 49 balls, including 6 fours and 4 sixes. His counterattacking innings rescued Goa from early trouble and laid the foundation for a strong total.
Goa were struggling at 35 for 4 in 5.2 overs, but Lalit found support from Deepraj Gaonkar (28 off 21) as the duo stitched a crucial 50-run partnership for the fifth wicket. After Gaonkar’s dismissal, Lalit accelerated even further. Darshan Misal (18 off 17) also contributed valuable runs, helping Goa cross the 100-run mark before Lalit unleashed a late assault. Goa smashed 54 runs in the last 22 balls, most of them coming from Lalit’s blistering bat.
For Chandigarh, Sandeep Sharma and Jagjit Singh Sandhu picked up 2 wickets each, while Rahul Singh claimed one.
Defending a competitive target, Goa’s bowlers were on fire from the first over. V. Koushik (3 for 12) and Arjun Tendulkar (3 for 17) delivered fiery spells, reducing Chandigarh to a disastrous 10 for 4. Their star batter Manan Vohra fell for a duck, leaving Chandigarh rattled.
Seasoned left-arm spinner Darshan Misal (3 for 23) joined the party, dismissing Raman Bishnoi (9) and tightening Goa’s grip on the match. Although Chandigarh’s lower order added some runs, it wasn’t enough to trouble Goa. Koushik completed the victory by dismissing Sandeep Sharma, ending Chandigarh’s innings at 121.
With this impressive win, Goa now stand third in the Elite Group B table, with 4 points from 2 matches (1 win and 1 loss). Goa will play their next match against Hyderabad on November 30.
