“MLA Praises Police Brilliance in Baina Dacoity Crackdown
PANAJI: In the end, Baina residents heaved a sigh of relief since the efforts of the police yielded results in nabbing all the alleged dacoits who, in the recent past, decamped with gold, silver jewellery, and cash from the house of Mr Sagar Naik at knifepoint. The dacoits entered the flat by breaking open the grills of the backdoor and decamped with cash, gold, and silver jewellery worth lakhs, injuring the house owner, his wife, and daughter.
The police inspector from Mormugao police station, Mr Sheriff Jacques, while giving credit to his superiors for guidance and the people of Baina for rendering help and the hard work of his team comprising PI, Sanguem, Vasco PI, and others, said, “It is sheer hard work and hard efforts put in to get a clue, but we had to work tirelessly and sleeplessly for three days. When we got the clue, we cracked the case and formed teams of police officers on multiple destinations.” Mr Jacques said one team was sent to Orissa, another to Maharashtra, and others to other places. “We are happy and we thank local residents for rendering valuable help as they allowed us to watch their Closed-Circuit Televisions for hours together, but we were confident of cracking the case,” he added.
The local MLA felicitated the police officers with a shawl, sriphal, and a citation in appreciation of their efforts, saying, “Cracking of the case has given a hard slap in the face of the politicians and others who were criticising the police.
He further stated that the police should be honoured for their efforts and cracking the case within a couple of days of its occurrence.” A huge crowd of locals gathered, shouting slogans and witnessing the felicitation ceremony.
