Morjim’s Ancient Paths in Peril: A 25-Year Quest for Justice Dominates Gram Sabha”
Morjim Goa – The Gram Sabha meeting held on November 23, 2025, shed light on the longstanding issue of traditional routes in Morji village, with Sarpanch Vilas Morje emphasizing that no Sarpanch has been able to resolve the problem.
Speaking at the meeting, Morje stated that some routes still lack survey numbers, while others have been closed due to land sales to outsiders. “The paths of man and God have been closed,” he said, blaming landowners, people’s representatives, and local politicians for accepting commissions and allowing the village to be sold.
Residents, including Govind Poke, had been raising this issue for 25 years, but it remains unresolved.
“When some people in our villages are vulnerable, only a few people can do anything,” Morje said, highlighting the need for collective action to reclaim the village’s traditional routes.
The closure of these routes has not only affected villagers but also access to sacred sites, sparking concerns about the village’s cultural heritage. As the quest for justice continues, villagers are left wondering if their voices will finally be heard.
