Calangute Police Muzzle Modified Bikes, Crack Down on Noise Pollution”
Calangute, Goa – In a bid to curb noise pollution and ensure road safety, the Calangute Police Station took a decisive step, detaining two bikes that had been modified with loud silencers, violating the Motor Vehicle Act.
The bikes, whose owners have yet to be identified, were stopped and seized during a late-night patrol in the Calangute area. The modified silencers, designed to amplify the bikes’ exhaust noise, posed a disturbance to the peace and tranquility of the surrounding environment, besides being a potential safety hazard.
According to sources, the police had been receiving complaints about the increasing number of bikes with modified silencers, which not only disturb the public but also contribute to noise pollution. The Calangute Police Station took cognizance of the issue and launched a crackdown on such vehicles.

“The law is clear – any modification to the vehicle’s exhaust system that increases noise levels beyond permissible limits is a punishable offense,” said a senior police officer. “We will not tolerate such reckless behavior, which not only endangers the rider but also disturbs the peace and tranquility of our community.”
The detained bikes will be released only after the owners pay the requisite fine and modify the vehicles to meet the required standards. The police have warned that such operations will continue, and those found flouting the law will face strict action.
