“PANAJI: After Dona Paula, Mapusa, and Baina, an armed gang of dacoits struck at Santa Cruz, targeting two flats and fleeing the scene with cash and gold jewellery worth approximately Rs 25 lakh, under the cover of darkness.
Investigating police officers and top brass of the police department (Indian Police Service) are on high alert, as the elusive dacoits have started targeting the peaceful residents of the tiny state, looting cash and expensive gold jewellery.
Even as the police and the victims are still reeling from the shock of these consecutive dacoity incidents, yet another daring and shocking armed dacoity took place, with the perpetrators leaving the spot without a trace, carrying a hefty booty of around Rs 25 lakh worth of jewellery and cash in the early hours of Wednesday.
Although the police have started investigating, they are still clueless, and no arrests have been made so far. This is the fourth such daring dacoity to take place, and the concerned authorities are grappling in the dark.
These masked dacoities and robberies have created a sense of insecurity among the residents of the state, who are now suspicious of labourers coming in from other states for work. The police should undertake immediate tenant verification in migrant colonies throughout the state, as well as check every lodge and paying guest room.”
