Amit Patkar Reminds Ruling Party of Nehru’s Legacy: A Call to Reflect on India’s History
Amit Patkar, President of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, has written a poignant letter highlighting the pivotal role Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru played in shaping modern India on his birth anniversary. Patkar’s letter emphasizes the importance of acknowledging Nehru’s vision, leadership, and conviction, which laid the foundation for India’s democratic institutions, scientific infrastructure, and commitment to secularism.
Patkar has sent a copy of Nehru’s iconic book, “The Discovery of India,” to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa and other ruling party leaders, urging them to understand the nation’s history and the principles that Nehru dedicated his life to. The Congress Party reaffirms its commitment to protecting India’s democratic values, secular spirit, and constitutional ethos.
“It is unfortunate that many leaders of the ruling party, including the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, repeatedly attack the Congress without even understanding the history that gave them the very platform they stand on today,” Patkar said. “Criticism without knowledge is not leadership — it is political posturing.”
Patkar further said, “Pandit Nehru’s iconic work, ‘The Discovery of India,’ is not just a book. It is a mirror to India’s civilisation, culture, and intellectual legacy. It reflects Nehru’s mind, India’s soul, and the arduous journey of nation-building after Independence.”
“I am sending this book to the Hon’ble Chief Minister and other ruling party leaders — not as a political reply, but as a responsibility. Before attacking Congress, before distorting history, before speaking against Nehru, every leader must understand the nation they are governing,” Patkar added.
India’s history cannot be erased, rewritten, or replaced, and Nehru’s legacy cannot be diminished by speeches — only strengthened by truth. Today, as we honour Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the Congress Party reaffirms its commitment to protecting India’s democratic values, secular spirit, and constitutional ethos — the very principles Nehru dedicated his life to.
