Mapusa Municipal Council in a Storm Over Staff Negligence Allegations
Mapusa: A controversy erupted at the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) office, with allegations of negligence and irresponsibility levelled against the staff and management. Opposition councillor Shashank Narvekar claimed that sections on the ground floor were empty, cupboards and record sections were wide open, and the entry section was unmanned during a visit to the office.

Narvekar alleged that files were scattered, and the office was left vulnerable to unauthorized access, sparking concerns about security and accountability. “This is a serious lapse in security and duty of the staff and management of MMC,” he said.
However, the MMC administration denied the allegations, attributing the incident to a misinterpretation of facts.
“The staff were attending to their duties, and the office was functioning normally. We will investigate the matter and take necessary action if required,” said a senior official.
The incident has raised questions about the functioning of the MMC office, with calls for an independent inquiry into the matter. Local leaders and citizens are demanding accountability and action against those responsible for the alleged negligence.
The controversy comes at a time when the MMC is grappling with issues of transparency and governance, with opposition councilors demanding greater accountability from the administration.
