GOA GEARS UP FOR CENSUS 2027: PRE-TEST TRAINING KILLS IT AT COLLECTORATE, SOUTH GOA
In a significant step towards ensuring a smooth and successful Census 2027, a comprehensive pre-test training session was conducted at the Collectorate, South Goa. The training, led by resource persons Mr. Maruti Sulebhavi, Statistical Investigator, Grade 1, and Ms. Sweta Nandwana, Deputy Director of Directorate of Census Operation, aimed to equip officials with the necessary skills and knowledge for the upcoming pre-test census operation.
The training session was part of the ongoing preparations for the Census 2027, which will be conducted in two phases, with the first phase focusing on house-listing operations scheduled for April-September 2026, and the second phase involving population enumeration from February 2027.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sulebhavi emphasized the importance of meticulous preparation for the census, highlighting the need for accurate data collection and the role of officials in ensuring the success of the operation.
The pre-test census is currently underway in select areas, including Corgao village in Pernem taluka and Margao municipal area in Salcete, with 27 teachers and government employees serving as enumerators and supervisors.
The Census 2027 will be a landmark exercise, being the country’s first fully digital census, incorporating features like self-enumeration, digital mapping tools, and geotagging of houses ¹ ² ³.
