Mhaje Ghar Yojana launched to help Goans regularise homes: Sawant

Panaji: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Sunday said that the state government has introduced the Mhaje Ghar Yojana to help Goans live peacefully in their homes and ensure that their houses can be passed down to future generations.

Speaking at the Mhaje Ghar Yojana form distribution function held at the Old Goa Panchayat Hall, Sawant said, “In a lifetime, one builds a house and has only one dream — to ensure that it is handed down to the next generation. That is why we have introduced this scheme, so that people can live peacefully in their homes.”

The event was attended by Chairman of the Goa Rehabilitation Board and Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai, North Goa Collector Ankit Yadav, Old Goa Sarpanch Medha Parvatkar, Cumbarjua Sarpanch Vinda Joshi, Carambolim Sarpanch Kusta Salelkar, Goltim-Navelim Divar Sarpanch Mario Pinto, St. Estavam ex-sarpanch and panch member Smita Sawant, Sao Matias Divar Deputy Sarpanch Rupesh Homkhandi, and Cumbarjua BJP President Yogesh Pilgaonkar.

“Our government is striving to increase the happiness index. A person who is born comes with nothing and takes nothing when they go. I urge people to collect the forms. Officials and panchayats will assist you in processing your applications and obtaining the necessary documents. The opposition tried to oppose this scheme, which allows the common man to regularise their homes. The scheme is not for any one community or religion; it is for all Goans, including those who have been residing here prior to 2014,” he added.

Faldessai thanked the Chief Minister and his team for making the scheme a reality in a short span of time and for providing the forms. “People getting married often faced problems related to such homes. Even Home Minister Amit Shah has said that he wishes to implement this scheme in Gujarat. The Chief Minister always thinks of the common man, and this is his gift to the people. Roti, kapda aur makaan are basic needs, and credit goes to the BJP for this achievement,” he said.

He further added, “People who have houses on comunidade or government land, as well as those constructed before 1972 on private land but deemed illegal, can now regularise them. Many families were facing great inconvenience. When the issue was raised in the Assembly, the opposition opposed this move. Lakhs of families who had homes but lacked ownership will now be able to claim their rights under the Mhaje Ghar Yojana.”

On the long-pending PDA issue, Faldessai assured, “I promise to resolve it within the next six months. I have been constantly following up with the Chief Minister on this matter.”
