BENGALURU: Oct 25 : The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr M A Saleem issued strict guidelines to his subordinates and other police officials to treat members of the general public with dignity, respect and courtesy.
Mr Saleen in his circular on Sunday mentioned that the main role of the policemen is not only enforcing law and order but also treating the members of the public with dignity and respectful behaviour.
Police officers should maintain transparency, and professionalism in every situation and whoever enters the police station should be treated equally and it is against the law to treat him/her in accordance with the status.
IGP also added that public grievances and complaints should be heard with patience and register their complaints without any delay and no harsh language should be used while dealing with the complaints.
“Officers should speak in politeness and dignified tone and it is also mentioned in the circular no police officers should be rendered with illegal favour or help or to gain financial benefits is strongly objectionable,” he added.
IGP Saleem while elaborating further stated that besides duty hours police officers should set an example of a good personality amongst the public members adding case files and registration should be maintained accurately.
“Unnecessary ladies and senior citizens should not be troubled besides victims and children should be handled with sensitivity and utmost care,” he urged adding the proper use of modern technology like body tools and other gadgets should be used responsibly. so that public interaction is fair and transparent.
He also reminded the police officers to maintain respect and human dignity at every moment whether it is search, arrest or interrogation adding not misuse of power instead the police officers need to set up an example of ethical policing.
He also strongly worded guidelines for the Karnataka police officers urging them not to summon ladies to the police station after 6 pm.
